Council Committees

  • Chair, Public Safety and Health Committee (2022); Municipal Services and Environmental Sustainability Committee (2023)

  • Vice-Chair, Finance Committee

  • Member, Community Relations and Recreation Committee

My Work on Council (so far)

As Chair of the Public Safety and Health Committee, we moved Lead-Safe Legislation from the original work proposed by then-Councilor Seren in 2021 on to approval of the legislation October 17, 2022.  To get there, our committee:

  • met with the Cuyahoga Board of Health Lead-Safe Team, Lead-Safe Cleveland Housing Director, other nonprofits that partner with Lead-Safe Cleveland, and the Cleveland Heights Law Department to strengthen and clarify the requirements and language in the legislation,

  • held a public hearing that was attended by landlords and tenants to provide them the opportunity to express concerns and ask questions about the pending legislation, and

  • reviewed public input and amended the legislation to address key resident concerns.

Also as Chair of the Public Safety and Health Committee, I promoted traffic-pattern changes at Noble Elementary and initiated potential legislation for sidewalk-repair and sidewalk-snow-removal programs.

As Chair of the Municipal Services and Environmental Sustainability Committee, I will continue working on sidewalk-repair legislation and other initiatives to improve city infrastructure and promote environmental sustainability.

As Vice-Chair of the Housing and Building Committee, I have attended all the meetings that Chair Cuda has called and I have observed Housing Court. We are currently working on potential legislation to request ARPA funds for owner-occupied home repairs and legislation to regulate short-term rentals.

I was appointed to serve as Council liaison to the Transportation and Environmental Sustainability Committee (TESC). Currently, I am working with the Administrative Services Committee to consider splitting the committee into two focused committees: Transportation and Environmental Sustainability. I am also working with the members of TESC to restructure their committee so it works more efficiently.

My Council colleagues and I approved the Mayor’s budget for 2023. For the first time, we interviewed the department directors about their funding requests.

I have attended many of the Racial Justice Task Force (RJTF) meetings as they prepare their final report to Council, due July 2023.
